Most parents are concerned about the kind of recreational activities that their kids are engaged in, for good reason. Some have become horrified to see their kids transform into young warriors.
Keyboard warriors, that is.
So they end up not learning how to face people in real life and not know how to defend themselves once they get face-to-face with their bullies. Once their awkward personalities start clashing with the realities of life, a good parent has to step in and get that kid enrolled in self defense classes.
Because sometimes, the best defense against bullies is a solid foundation of martial arts and self defense.
A kid learns how to be independent by discovering the benefits of self defense. He spends time in school away from parents and exposed to potential bullying incidents. If a kid has no other parent or guardian around to stand up for him, he had to “man up” and face the problem head on.
Plus the kid learns better hand-eye coordination.
Knowing how to catch a punch is different from knowing how to duck a punch. Offensive defense becomes an option only when a kid has finally mastered hand-eye coordination. Because bullying gets worse for the bullied if he tries to punch back in self defense only for the hit to go awry.
In situations where the bully has cornered the kid and no teacher/parent/guardian is around, a kid that knows how to fight back becomes less and less susceptible to bullying. The reason is obvious. If bullies only pick on kids that don’t know how to fight back, a kid skilled in self defense gets picked on less and less.
Also, bullies pick mostly on the weak.
Your kid is not as weak as he thinks he is. Self defense classes will prove that fact to him. Stop letting your kid survive in school, teach him martial arts, and watch his inner confidence develop, with a good balance and understanding of what self-defense is.
